CooperVision (CVI) is recruiting a Principal Engineer, Capital Project Management. As a member of CVI’s Global Manufacturing Operations, the Principal Engineer leads end-to-end capital projects for CVI. Responsibilities include but are not limited to project planning, stakeholder management, budgeting, financials, risk taking, quality control, compliance, and reporting for assigned capital projects. Develops and manages projects, including the planning, organization, and coordination of construction design and engineering, bidding, project oversight, inspection, and implementation phases. Monitors capital budgets to ensure project expenditures remain within the scope of work.
Provides technical support and manages all aspects of capital construction projects. Oversees consultants, contractors, and staff performing capital construction work. Prepares construction specifications, bid documents, contracts, and change orders. Conducts field inspections to collect data, verify existing/actual conditions, and monitor conformance with plans/specifications. This role is not limited to local expansion projects as it may include projects in multiple countries. Position works onsite full time and is based in our Juana Diaz, Puerto Rico campus.
Essential Functions & Accountabilities:
- Leads and ensures projects are clearly defined, as well as roles and responsibilities between contractors, vendors, authorities, and stakeholders. Accountable for project scope and deliverables timely completion aligned with business strategies.
- Provides technical support and manages all aspects of capital construction projects. Closely monitors all activities related to company’s capital expenditure projects.
- Leads and supervises project managers, project engineers, construction managers,
among other direct or contracted resources.
- Acts as a liaison between the project and the critical stakeholders. Maintains all parties informed (consultants, contractors, CVI leaders, and other stakeholders).
- Communicates project status on an ongoing basis in several forums. Identifies challenges, decision points, recommendations, adjusted timelines, potential risks, and ensures overall alignment.
- Owns critical pathways for capital projects, local, regional, and divisional as applicable. Acts as liaison for sustainability and standardization matters.
- Creates presentations, uses speaking engagements, and other methods to enhance the community's awareness of and appreciation for capital projects and educate community stakeholders regarding each project's function and objectives.
- Drives project master plans and portfolios.
Active involvement and alignment for LRSP requirements and business needs.
- Responsible for compliant management from conceptualization to vendor, contract, resource, spending, tracking, and other administrative and regulatory aspects for assigned projects.
- Ensures compliance with local, federal requirements and other potential regulatory agencies.
- Other duties as assigned.
This role may require travel up to 15% of the time and requires ongoing construction site presence in Juana Diaz and Ponce, PR.
Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):
- Proven experience leading capital and large-scale projects from concept to final delivery.
- In-depth knowledge of project management including capital, facilities planning, and construction management processes and procedures.
- Knowledge of project bidding, budgeting, resource, and scheduling practices.
- Outstanding communication and negotiation skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- A team player with leadership abilities.
- Deep knowledge of laws governing construction contracting.
- Demonstrated ability to apply project management methodologies to prepare contract documents, specifications, schedules, and cost estimates and to manage projects and contracts.
- Fully bilingual (English & Spanish).
- Works in both office environment and construction sites.
- Needs to stand, walk, and may be seated for an extended period.
- Needs to have high analytical capacity and level of professionalism and judgment to resolve problems.
- Incumbent will work near moving mechanical parts.
Education:
- Five (5) years of capital project management experience including end-to-end design, construction, inspection,
oversight, and handoff of large-scale projects.
- Staff supervision and oversight experience highly desirable.
- Experience in leasing, construction, engineering, and all property operation and building management facets.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field.
- PMP Certification, PE, and graduate degrees are preferred.
